Energy Watchdog Escalates Scrutiny of Pipeline Operators

Pipelines: It’s certainly a hot topic.

Regardless of which side you’re on, we can likely agree that pipelines are not going away.  There are literally millions of kilometers of pipelines criss-crossing North America, so it’s increasingly important that the industry focuses on mitigating risk and ensuring environmental and public safety.

Pipeline integrity risk management is at the core of what we do at Cenozon. It’s not surprising to us that the Alberta Energy Regulator is expanding the number of reviews it performs each year in an effort to reduce the number of spills. Increasing awareness, changing regulatory/environmental policies and heightened public pressure have likely contributed to AER’s decision.

The good news is that pipeline spills are already on the decline in Alberta, but there is always room for improvement. As outlined in the article below, the regulatory environment is getting more stringent and more complicated.  We view this as an opportunity.  Alberta is a province filled with innovators and entrepreneurs who create new technologies to solve a problem, fulfill a need or simplify tasks.  At Cenozon, we thrive on innovation.
